Testimonial for collaboration on EDI retreat

I’m thrilled to share a testimonial from a fantastic client I collaborated with last year on an EDI retreat. The event was for EDI leads and environmental scientists from four universities around the country - Cambridge, Exeter, Glasgow and Oxford.

Devised by The Agile Initiative at the Oxford Martin School, part of University of Oxford, the EDI retreat concept offers the opportunity for people to learn, share knowledge, and forge connections to support them in their work.

I co-developed the event with human change specialist Jo Twiselton, and we were wonderfully supported by Clare Lucas of UK Ducks in a Row. Together we shaped a safe and relaxed space, so we could all share knowledge and thoughts with confidence.

This experience reminded me that high levels of collaboration can help us overcome challenges of driving inclusion in essential areas such as climate change research.

Huge problems simply can't be solved quickly. But by talking honestly, by overcoming barriers, and by making the commitment to drive inclusion, we can take steps towards long-lasting solutions that work for more people.

It was a real pleasure to work on the project. And as I pursue more meaningful projects in 2025, I hope to co-produce more activities which help organisations in research, culture, heritage and communications include underrepresented voices and experiences.

The graphic says:

"Working with Elma on the Agile EDI Retreat was an excellent experience. Her considerate timely responses, thoughtful planning, and creative facilitation contributed to an impactful 1.5 day event on embedding equality, diversity and inclusion in research. The curiosity, care, and dedication that Elma brought to our collaboration left a strong impression with the Agile Initiative team, and we are hugely grateful for her support." - Stephanie Perrin, Equality, diversity and inclusion officer, The Agile Initiative, part of Oxford Martin School at University of Oxford.
